We begin our journey of discovery in Iceland by heading north to visit one of the island's most famous and symbolic places, Þingvellir National Park. The Þingvellir National Park, a Unesco World Heritage Site, is considered one of the most important geological wonders of the world. Here, we will be able to admire the effects of the movements of the tectonic plates that characterise the earth's crust and emerge on the surface. The journey will then proceed along the course of the Hvita, the river that feeds the waterfalls of Hraunfossar - known for their particular structure - and the rapids of Barnafoss.late afternoon arrival in Laugarbakki. Accommodation in the hotel and free dinner.
DAY 3
Visit the Arctic Coast Way, passing by the peat houses of Glaumbær, to Akureyri and the Goðafoss Falls, the famous waterfalls of the gods. Late afternoon arrival in the Lake Mývatn area, one of the most famous and spectacular landscapes on the entire island due to its incessant volcanic activity. Accommodation in the hotel, free time at leisure and dinner.
DAY 4
We start the day by reaching the small town of HúsavÃk overlooking the Greenland Sea. From here we will set sail on an unforgettable whale-watching boat trip. We will sail aboard the innovative hybrid-electric boats and glide silently over the sea approaching whales in their natural habitat, causing them minimal disturbance. At the end of this exciting activity, we will travel along the beautiful northern coast of Iceland, first heading east, and then turn south until we reach the impressive Dettifoss waterfalls. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon, free dinner and overnight stay.
DAY 5
Today we will dedicate the morning to discovering the area around Lake Mývatn. This is one of the most important sites on the island due to its incredible volcanic activity and geological formations. This is one of the most explosive volcanoes, having erupted some thirty times since the country was colonised. After visiting around Lake Mývatn, a long transfer in the afternoon will take us to the town of Egilsstaðir, where we will have the opportunity to relax in the thermal pools of the modern Vök Baths. We will stay overnight at the hotel and have a free dinner.
DAY 6
Often overlooked by visitors, the eastern fjords represent the best the island has to offer. We will devote the entire morning to visiting this area. The region boasts the sunniest climate in the country and some of the best-known and best-loved wildlife. This land is the only place on the island where several herds of reindeer live free and isolated. Sighting them is by no means easy, especially during the summer season, but one should always pay attention to the scenery out of the window: with a bit of luck one might spot them in the distance. In the afternoon we continue our journey south, not before taking a short break in the delightful port town of Djúpivogur. The last stop of this long day will finally be the small fishing village of Höfn, where we will spend the night. Accommodation in the hotel and free dinner.
DAY 7
The big star of our day today will be Vatnajökull National Park: a white giant covering an area of about eight per cent of the entire island. Our day will begin at the glacial lagoon of Jökulsárlón, with a visit to the most iconic and surreal location of the entire trip: blue icebergs break away from the glacial front and float in the cold waters of the lagoon until they mingle with the rushing waters of the Atlantic Ocean, creating unique and unforgettable contrasts. In the afternoon we continue our journey westwards to the small town of Skaftafell. Overnight stay in the Klaustur area and free dinner.
DAY 8
The day will begin by admiring the so-called black sand beach of VÃk, Reynisfjara's famous black sand beach, famous for its characteristic basalt columns towering above the beach and its rock stacks rising from the sea. A small road will allow us to reach the top of the cliff, where with a little luck we will have a chance to observe the puffin up close. We then continue our journey westwards with a visit to the small village of Skógar, famous for its elegant Skógafoss waterfall: one of the highest in Iceland. After lunch, we stop at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, where - if safety conditions permit - we can take an unforgettable walk behind it. Overnight in a hotel in the Hella area and free dinner.
DAY 9
In the morning today, we continue our journey of discovery through Iceland by exploring one of the most famous and iconic routes on the island: the famous Golden Circle. This major tourist route includes three beautiful places within easy reach of each other: Þingvellir National Park, the Gullfoss waterfall and the Geysir geothermal area. At the end of the visit we head to the last stop on our tour, the city of ReykjavÃk, where we arrive in the early afternoon. Here we will have free time to visit the Icelandic capital on our own and admire some of its landmarks, such as the Lutheran church of HallgrÃmskirkja and Lake Tjörnin. Accommodation in the hotel and free dinner.
